Moving, not just buying

The house is the easy part.

The visa that forbids the work you were planning to do. The eight-day clock that starts the moment you land. The driving licence you cannot swap. The tax regime that would have halved your bill if you had chosen a town four miles further south. None of this is secret — it is just scattered across sixty forum threads in two languages.

Answer five questions and we will lay out your route, in order, with what each step costs. The first part is free.

Elective Residency Visa

People living on pensions, rents, dividends or savings.

The hard part: It forbids work of any kind, including remote work for an employer at home. The income must be passive and provable, and consulates read this strictly.

The sequence

  1. Three to five months before

    €200–€600

    1. Book the consulate appointment first, then gather the papers

The appointment is the bottleneck, not the paperwork — some consulates release slots months out and they go in minutes. Book it, then work backwards: proof of income, proof of accommodation in Italy, health cover, criminal record certificate, all translated and legalised.

  2. Two to four months before

    €116–€160

    2. Apply for the Elective Residency Visa

People living on pensions, rents, dividends or savings. It forbids work of any kind, including remote work for an employer at home. The income must be passive and provable, and consulates read this strictly. Consulates look for roughly €38,000 a year, and more is safer than the minimum.

6 more steps, each costed.

The eight-day permesso clock, residency and the vigile's visit, health cover and what it really costs, the driving licence, and the day you become tax resident.

What this is

The sequence, the costs and the traps, specific to your passport, your income and your comune. Written by people who have taken apart the same paperwork for this whole site.

What it is not

It is not legal or tax advice, and we do not file anything on your behalf. For the visa itself you deal with your consulate or an immigration lawyer; for the tax election, a commercialista. We tell you which one you need and when.

If you would rather ask

The hour-long call is £149 and covers the same ground with your actual situation in front of us. Buying the plan first makes it a better hour.
