Questions
- Where does it come from?
- ISTAT: the official comune list, the 2019 and 2025 population-by-age releases, and the 2024 administrative boundaries for centroids. We assemble, compute the change and the median, score, and publish. Nothing is modelled or imputed; a missing input is a blank.
- What is the Need Index?
- A 0–100 score of how badly a comune is emptying: 65% population decline over six years, 35% ageing, both from ISTAT. It is deliberately not blended with liveability — the two are published side by side on the site so the tension stays visible. The dictionary gives the exact formula.
- Can I publish charts and figures from it?
- Yes, that is the point. Attribution is the only condition: “Source: Borgonova (borgonova.com), from ISTAT data”. What you cannot do is redistribute the file or a substantial extract of it.
- Journalist or academic?
- Free. Email us from your work address with a line about the piece or the project, and the link comes back the same day. Attribution as above.
- How often is it refreshed?
- When ISTAT publishes: the population release is annual, so expect one major edition a year plus corrections. The annual licence receives every edition at the same link; the snapshot is the edition you bought.
